"Three Hundred Pesos:” Story Analysis

Manuela Williams Crosno (1905-1977) lived most of her life in New Mexico and she used it as the setting for her stories. They all take place around Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Taos. She usually wrote about Spanish letters on the land who lived on the land more than one hundred years ago. She also thought English for many years and was a poet an artist .her article “why teach school” won first prize in a writing contest.

The story revolves around Anastacio Perea wants his own shop for in order to become rich, to achieve his purpose he needs three hundred pesos but at the beginning of the story only has two hundred pesos be only has two hundred but during the history makes every effort to get the rest, denied even helps his brothers Berta and Emilio but in the end he manages to get his three hundred pesos but for his funeral..

 Story’s plot: 
 Conflict: he wants three hundred pesos to buy his own store. 

Rising action: 

Emilio’ son was sick.

Emilio visited his sister Berta.
The brothers talked about his brother Anastacio.
There was a huge storm and destroyed the entire field.
Anastacio returned to plant corn.

Berta roof is destroyed.

The harvest was ruined by a flock of sheep.
Anastacio planted pinto beans.

Climax: when he had the accident on the road and fell on the floor whit the beans
. 
Resolution: he gets the trhee hundred pesos but dies and the money is used in his funeral.

 Characters:

Anastacio Perea:protagonis is mean, lonely, greedy, has no relationship whit family, hard working and selfish,indepent.
Berta Perea:secondary, not ambition, character, is a married woman, kind,warm-herted. 

  Emilio Perea:secondary character ,have a child,warm-herted , kind, and has a good relationship whit her sister.
 
Moral: .   The people should be nice and try to help  to other people when they needed

I liked it because the story is interesting and reflects something that often happens in real life on the ambitious people who only think about themselves and not the other also makes a great teaching, but in the end he died Anastacio a much unexpected end that makes me think that selfish people will never have a happy ending.
