Manuela Williams Crosno (1905-1977) lived most of her life in New Mexico and she used it as the setting for her stories. They all take place around Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Taos. She usually wrote about Spanish letters on the land who lived on the land more than one hundred years ago. She also thought English for many years and was a poet an artist .her article “why teach school” won first prize in a writing contest.
Story’s plot:
Conflict: he wants three hundred pesos to buy his own store.
Rising action:
Emilio’ son was sick.
The brothers talked about his brother Anastacio.
There was a huge storm and destroyed the entire field.
Anastacio returned to plant corn.
Berta roof is destroyed.
The harvest was ruined by a flock of sheep.
Anastacio planted pinto beans.
Climax: when he had the accident on the road and fell on the floor whit the beans

Resolution: he gets the trhee hundred pesos but dies and the money is used in his funeral.

Berta Perea:secondary, not ambition, character, is a married woman, kind,warm-herted.
I liked it because the story is interesting and reflects something that often happens in real life on the ambitious people who only think about themselves and not the other also makes a great teaching, but in the end he died Anastacio a much unexpected end that makes me think that selfish people will never have a happy ending.
